Naturally there are sides at the other end of the spectrum, who have huge followings and expectations to match their decorated history. Leeds United will certainly be aspiring to the Premier League – a division many will say they belong in due to their past, stadium size and gate figures. Leicester City are another side knocking on the door of England’s top flight, heavily armoured with new signings on big wages and bigger targets. However they face stiff resistance from several others who will endeavour to derail the Foxes for the sake of their own progress.

The global interest in the Championship is certainly vindicated by the fact that surprises and relative upsets occur on an almost weekly basis. Matches often throw up unforeseeable outcomes which frustrate and aggravate supporters, but ultimately it is this uncertainty that keeps them coming back for more.
